COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is designed for Line Managers and HR Managers to increase their awareness, understanding and confidence when supporting employees at risk of suicide, in order to prevent suicide in the workplace.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

HR Managers, Line Managers, CEO’s, Company Directors and all equivalent.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

In this training you will learn why we need to be alert to suicide. Understand what to look out for among employees, understand how to ask about suicide, and learn about the legal obligations as an employer. Participants will also understand how to manage the devastating event of a suicide of an employee, whether this occurs at work or outside. Lastly, we will teach you how to look after your own mental health whilst supporting others.

• Identifying employees at risk of suicide

• Asking about suicide and responding to disclosures of suicide thoughts

• Supporting employees at risk of suicide within and outside of work

• The actions to take when suicide behaviour occurs within the workplace

• Responding to the suicide of an employee

• How do we look after ourselves

FACILITATOR

Alice Newton-Leeming has worked and studied within the field of wellbeing, mental health and suicide prevention for over 14 years. Completing her psychology degree in 2011, and volunteering as a Samaritans Listening Volunteer, Alice quickly moved into a role for a national Suicide Prevention Charity in the UK, and progressed to managing a national helpline and training team around the country delivering training relating to mental health and suicide prevention.

Alice has worked for organisations such as Mind, Mental Health Learning, Listening Ear and Every Life Matters providing emotional support, suicide bereavement support and training to equip communities to spot signs of concerns and provide support to those around them. Alice also has a passion for supporting others to understand how to look after their own wellbeing. She is a fierce advocate for self-care and implores anyone she meets to make time for themselves, because we all deserve it.
